Bariatric surgery conversions and revisions represent roughly 10 to 15 percent of all weight loss surgery procedures performed in most Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence.
Bariatric surgery has been for many years one of the most effective long term solutions for weight loss in morbidly obese patients.  It is possible however to experience weight regain after several years following bariatric surgery.
Long term and short term complications can also be seen after weight loss surgery requiring a revision or a conversion to another procedure.
Surgical Technique
Bariatric Surgery Conversions and/or Revisions are technically challenging procedures but most can be perform laparoscopically or minimally invasive.

The number of incisions and the length of the procedure is highly dependent on the prior surgical history. A simple band removal can be done in less than one hour while a gastric bypass revision can take several hours.
 Options for Conversions and Revisions
The options available for Bariatric SurgeryConversions or Revisions are highly dependent on the initial weight loss procedure.
The more invasive the initial operation the less options available.
A Lap Band® could be removed or converted to a sleeve or a gastric bypass just to mentioned a few options.
